this is a speech (tribute) to women -- written by Chauncy Mitchell Depew who's trying to put a pail of blot on WOMEN.
Ah, Women!
In all ages, woman has been the source of all that is pure, unselfish, and heroic, in the spirit and life of man. It was for love that Anthony lost a world. It was for love that Jacob work for seven long years, and for seven more; and I have often wondered what must have been his emotions when on the morning of the eighth year he awoked and found the homely, scrawney, bony Leah instead of the lovely and beautiful Rachel. A distinguished French philosopher answered the narrative of every event with the question, "Who was she?" Helen conquered Troy, plunged all the nations of anitiquity to war. And gave the earliest, as it is still the greatest, epic which has come down through all time.
Poetry and fiction are based upon woman's love, and the movement of history are mainly due to the sentiments or ambitions she has inspired. There is no aspiration which any man entertains, no achievement he seeks to accomplish, no great and honorable ambition he desires to gratify, which is not directly related to either or both a mother and a wife. From the hearthsome around which linger the recollections of our mother, from the fireside where our wives await us, come all the purity, all the hope, and all the courage with which we fight the battle of life.
The man who is thus not inspired, who labors into so much to secure the applause of the world accomplishes little of good for other or of honor for himself. I hope that each of us may always have near us: a perfect woman nobly planned, to warm, to comfort, and command, and yet a spirit still, and bright with something of an angel light.
I longed to recite this in our class a year ago but I decided to go on another theme. Well, when I first read this, it really hit a strand. The writer's point I can't agree more! And may I add, it was nicely written and thought of.
When i entered a room in yahoo messenger group, an American said that woman in the states is just either a whore or a feminist. I grinned. Then I thought, hmmmmmmmm, how about here in the Philippines.
Well, certainly, Filipinas are not whores. Even though they're dubbing them "Brown Fucking Machines" because of the ladies in Subic, I hope they won't generalize. Feminist are trying to detach themselves from the norm or tradition that women are under the tables of men and that we're the weak ones in terms of multiple aspects. How cool would it be!? I'm not saying that we should be on a competitions against men. I say that we should look on a different point of view where we will show our worths, our essence (pageant atmosphere ringing), our capabilities, and our extensions.
Women, don't let gender specific fallacies rule your minds. We are far stronger that what we can and cannot imagine. So go on and let's show them what we, GORGEOUS CREATURES, can do!
